This pleasing French and Indian War period powder horn is as good as it gets. The warm patinaed surface is un-touched. It is dated Feb. 27 1760 by the engraver and PvB 1766 x is found in a secondary hand in what I feel was an empty cartouche provided for the maker for the perspective owners name. The engrailing on the throat of the horn is much more elaborate than normally found and the applied brass scalloped ring at the base of the bottom plug, matching the carved design at the throat, is a very unique detail. It is a large horn, as it should be for the period, measuring 18 1/2 inches along the outside curve from spout to butt, not including the funiture pull fineal. As you will notice in the last photograph, it has a most pleasing double curve shape. More detailed photos available upon request
Attractively priced at $15,000.
